Many people probably wonder why Scottish Folds ears are folded. Many people believe that Scottish Folds are born that way, but they are not.
Every Scottish Fold is born with straight ears, but within three weeks, due to a genetic mutation, the ears start to fold down. Though, not all of the kittens in the litter have folded ears. The ones that keep their straight ears are called Scottish Straights.
A Scottish Fold's folded ears make it a very expensive, designer cat.
